Early Childhood Education

Children love the Thom and Lisa Mandel Early Childhood Education Center at the Shaw JCC. We support the growth and development of each child by providing a hands-on, exploration-based curriculum in a warm, and nurturing environment. Our classrooms incorporate experiences designed to enhance children’s understanding of the world around them and their relationship to it as they are expressed through Jewish values and traditions using the Fingerprints curriculum.

At the Mandel Early Childhood Education Center, we are concerned about the well-being of the whole child-cognitively, emotionally, socially, and physically.

Our CATCH curriculum integrates an understanding of the importance of healthy food choices and physical activity, whether it is helping in our preschool garden, swimming in our pool, hiking in the woods, or playing in our gym or on one of our playgrounds.

The Mandel Early Childhood Education Center exposes children to the warmth, beauty and excitement of Jewish Life through the framework of SHEVA . Values and concepts are integrated into every aspect of our classroom experiences to help children develop a positive Jewish Identity. Your child will experience all aspects of the culture, customs, community and religion, including food, crafts, music, blessings and traditions through the implementation of “An Ethical Start®”. This award winning value –based emergent strategy allows children to develop a sense of self, family and community while growing as a well rounded learner.

The Shaw JCC has provided early childhood programs to the Greater Akron community for over 40 years. We understand that education is most successful when parents, children, and teachers partner together in building relationships. From infant care to our transitional kindergarten programming, we support the entire family on its educational journey. We look forward to having your family become part of our community!
