Our mission

It is our mission to create a safe, relaxing and trusting atmosphere where children are encouraged to pursue their interests, develop friendships and grow in confidence, independence and respect for themselves and others.

About the program

Our School-Aged Child Care (SACC) program is licensed to operate by the State of Ohio, Department of Jobs & Family Services. We strongly believe in providing children with the opportunity to participate in a well-balanced and safe afternoon of recreational, social, cultural and educational activities. Our goal is for every child to have a meaningful experience while they are here. We ensure that all the activities provided are differentiated to meet the needs of all children. Our supportive and well-trained staff is continually striving to ensure that your child feels at home when they are here at the Shaw JCC.

Who can participate?

The Shaw JCC provides school-aged child care programming to children ages 5-10 from Akron Public, Revere Local, Copley-Fairlawn City School Districts, The Lippman School and other surrounding school districts. Families of school-aged children must be members of The Shaw JCC. To learn more about the vast list of benefits that come with being a member, visit our website: ShawJCC.org. Limited spaces available.

What will my child do in the school-aged child care program?

Please read important information regarding electronics usage and policy.

Each day features a healthy nut-free snack, homework time, structured and unstructured supervised activity time, and even the opportunity for individualized tutoring! The Child Care Programming here at The J provides an opportunity for students to engage in a different way than they do during the school day. This more relaxed, playful and nurturing atmosphere allows expression and emphasizes the social aspect of liiteracy.

What happens when my child does not have school?

If school is out for in-service, holidays, or bad weather, we have something planned for you! These days may offer field trips, cooking, games, crafts, swimming, and more. We are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Shaw JCC. Please bring a dairy lunch and swim gear. (On Snowdays, you must have Snowday Insurance.)

Tuition Fees

All full-year tuition fees are required to be set-up on a Tuition Payment Plan. There is a one-time $50 registration fee per child at the time of enrollment. This fee is not included in the rates listed below.  All families enrolling in Child Care must be members in good standing at the Shaw JCC of Akron.
