Many of us are not alone in the struggle to maintain a healthy weight. About two-thirds of adults in the U.S. are overweight or obese. The community is invited to attend a free presentation – Fact or Fiction: The Truth about Weight Loss – at the Shaw JCC of Akron on Thursday, August 23, 6 to 7 p.m.
Dr. Irene Dejak, an obesity medicine specialist with the Summa Health Weight Management Institute, will explain the difference between fact and fiction when it comes to many aspects of weight loss. Participants will learn about the evolution of today’s obesity epidemic, the degree to which genetics plays a role in the struggle with weight, and the reason why meal plans are the most important part of weight loss attempts.
The presentation will be held at the Shaw JCC of Akron located at 750 White Pond Drive. Facility tours including the fitness center and indoor/outdoor pool areas will be offered following the presentation. New members who join on August 23 will receive a 50% discount on their registration fee with a savings of up to $50.
Although this is a free event, participants are asked to RVSP by calling 330-867-7850 or registering online at www.shawjcc.org/jcccalendar/weightloss. Questions may be directed to Shaw JCC Fitness Director Andrea D’Amore at 330-835-0058.
